Competency Profiling & Job Analysis
An effective way to integrate HR activities is by using a competency-based model. In order to build a competency-based organization, companies need to close the gap that exists between their human resources system and their vision. To successfully close the gap, an organization begins by identifying the organizational or core competencies that supports the vision.
The next step is to build each of the components of your HR system based on this foundation. It’s not easy to translate corporate vision and values into behaviors or to inspire people on a daily basis to work towards achieving that vision. The key to approaching these monumental tasks effectively is through integration – organizing all HR sub-systems to support company short and long term goals.
TAG/DDI helps organizations build the “one stop shop" which involves creating a flexible, efficient, integrated set of competency-based expert tools that identify, measure, develop and reinforce individual and organizational behaviors.
TAG/DDI proposes to develop a competency model that includes a small set of organization-wide competencies relevant to all jobs. These are referred to as “core” competencies. These core competencies help to drive the strategic focus throughout the organization. In addition, TAG/DDI will develop additional role or job family competencies that are unique to distinct clusters of roles/jobs in organizations. These sets of competencies will enable organizations to galvanize its workforce toward a common vision and strategy (“what” needs to be accomplished) and instill a corporate culture (“how” people go about accomplishing their objectives) through integrated people management and development programs.
A tool organizations may consider when performing job analyses is Identifying Criteria for SuccessÒ (ICS), which is DDI’s expert job analysis software program. ICS is a “user-friendly” system that gives organizations tremendous flexibility in the job analysis process, with methods ranging from very detailed, thorough, and accurate to streamlined (when speed is the most critical constraint).
